Masterton District Council (MDC) is a progressive, community-focused organisation committed to delivering high-quality services and creating a great place to live, work, and play. Their vision is simple: providing the best of rural provincial living. MDC are proud of their strong values—innovation, collaboration, integrity, and respect. They work hard to create a workplace where people feel supported and empowered. If you’re looking for an organisation that values fresh thinking and real impact, you will feel right at home here.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, your leadership will help shape how communities thrive. As Group Manager Infrastructure, you will take charge of essential services including 3waters, roads, solid waste, parks, facilities and property, whilst driving major current and future projects that matter. This is a senior leadership position with real influence, combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You will guide long-term planning, manage significant budgets, and inspire a talented team to deliver results that make a difference.
You won’t be doing this alone. Collaboration is at the heart of the job. In addition to the internal engagement, you will work closely with elected members, iwi, contractors, consultants, and government agencies to deliver solutions that meet community needs. You will also play a key role in guiding the transition of water services to a new regional entity, ensuring compliance and continuity throughout the process.
This isn’t just about maintaining infrastructure, it is about planning for the future. You will have the chance to influence long-term strategies, continue embedding the best-practice project management framework in place on all projects, and lead initiatives that improve efficiency and sustainability. From implementing waste minimisation strategies to building new assets and providing business as usual levels of services your work will touch every part of life in the district.
To be considered, you will need experience delivering complex civil projects and managing significant budgets. You will be a confident leader who knows how to build strong teams and foster a positive, high-performing culture. Communication skills are key as you will be engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including iwi and mana whenua, along with presenting advice at council and committee meetings.
A relevant qualification in engineering or project management will give you the technical grounding to lead with confidence. But just as important is your ability to think strategically, solve problems, and keep things moving in a fast-paced environment.
If you are passionate about infrastructure and want to lead a team that makes a real impact, we’d love to hear from you. This is your chance to bring your skills, experience, and ideas to a role that matters.
