About Hikoikoi Management Ltd:

Hīkoikoi Management Limited (HML) provides financial and administrative services to the Wellington Tenths Trust (WTT) and Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust (PNMRT). These Trusts represent the descendants of Te Ātiawa and other Taranaki iwi, managing land, assets, and finances on behalf of their Owners. Our vision is to protect and enhance cultural values, taonga, and assets while generating income to improve social, cultural, and economic well-being.

The organisation is genuinely unique, especially across the Wellington landscape. As a, commercial enterprise, it is very successful, with that success being driven by its determination, as representatives of the owners, to deliver significant commercial, and at least as importantly, social returns, to those owners/associated iwis.

The role:

We are seeking a skilled and culturally grounded Accountant to manage and report financial information across multiple entities including WTT, PNMRT, and associated charitable and commercial entities. This is a hands-on role with scope to contribute to budgeting, audits, payroll, and special projects.

It is a role that you will be encouraged to make your own. The opportunity for growth and influence is only limited by you, as the leadership will actively assist and promote your development, and thus the influence you can have across this successful, complex entity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Budgeting and cashflow forecasting
  • Quarterly management reporting and audit support
  • Bank reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Accounts Receivable and Payable management
  • Tax commitments (GST, PAYE, FBT, RWT)
  • Payroll processing and HR documentation
  • Banking administration and compliance with IRFS/GAAP
  • Filing systems and meeting support
  • Upholding cultural protocols and supporting events

What you’ll bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting and CA ANZ registration
  • Strong proficiency in Xero, iPayroll, Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ideally, an understanding of, or at least openness to alignment with Mana Whenua Te Ātiawa, Te Reo Māori, and Tikanga
  • Ability to work across multiple entities with integrity and accuracy
  • Full driver’s licence

Personal Attributes:

  • Strategic thinker with a sense of humour
  • Ethical, trustworthy, loyal and empathetic
  • Team contributor who values consultation and mutual respect
  • Culturally aware and committed to the Trusts’ values

This is an exciting time to be joining Hikoikoi Management Limited and the associated Trusts. Their development pipeline is full, they have strong JV partners, and an expanding sphere of influence. However, there is the significant benefit of knowing that your contribution is also making a real difference to the well-being of the associated owners/whānau.

The role is based at the Executive Office, Hīkoikoi, Pito One, Wellington
