David Bryant who at the time was about to finish his DCE Corporate Services role with Hamilton City Council was appointed to the role. Being Papamoa based, David’s background was exactly what the Board were seeking.
After several years in the Pouroki/Registrar role, the incumbent, David Dunbar, took a new role within the organsiation. These were big shoes to fill and SWR were tasked with identifying the right person to take over form David.
Following an extensive search process, Christine Anderson who at the time was the Registrar for The Pharamcy Council of New Zealand was appointed to the role. Christine not only bought the health sector knowledge but she also bought a strong legal background in dealing with the complex legal issues that this role would encounter on a regular basis.
With the retirement of the current incumbent after 32 years in the role, SWR were tasked with sourcing and identifying suitable senior leadership talent to take on this challenging but rewarding role.
The location of Ashburton meant that our proactive research on who may be appropriate to undertake this role was a critical component to ensuring a successful outcome.
Kalena Hirst, who had moved to Ashburton with her family from Auckland was appointed to the role. With a strong leadership background and a commitment to early childhood education, Kalena was the perfect appointment to this critical role.
Bill Day, the Founder and CEO for 18 years retired requiring SWR to identify a suitably qualified candidate to take over. These were big shoes to fill. One of the Foundation’s proudest achievements was raising $10m needed for the outfit and equip the interior of Te Wao Nui Regional Children’s Hospital.

Nigel took over the reins on 15 September 2021 and will be familiar to iwi, stakeholders and community members, having served as the current Deputy Chief Executive of Greater Wellington since September 2018, as well as serving as General Manager Environment, General Manager of People & Customer and a number of other environmental roles at Greater Wellington in a career with the council dating back to 1998.
