We are seeking the new Manager of the Wellington Transport Analytics Unit (TAU), the region’s trusted hub for transport evidence and analytics. As a visionary leader with a passion for data-driven decision making and insights, you and your team will have a marked regional impact.

About the Role

As Manager of TAU, you will:

  • Lead a team of transport modellers, analysts, and data specialists.
  • Provide authoritative, independent transport modelling and data insights to support transport planning within the Wellington Region.
  • Collaborate with regional partners including NZTA Waka Kotahi and the region’s local bodies.
  • Drive innovation in transport analytics and modelling.
  • Influence strategic planning and policy development across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistent, high-quality transport analytics and modelling.
  • Manage data systems and ensure compliance with privacy and legislative standards.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain and enhance transport models and databases.
  • Lead and manage internal and external projects
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Lead the TAU team with vision, integrity, and strategic insight.

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualification and significant experience in a relevant area such as spatial or transport planning.  (Demonstrated technical leadership in data analysis, modelling or transport planning is highly desirable.)
  • Demonstrated leadership of technical teams including the ability to motivate and inspire through example.
  • Strong relationship development and management skills working across most levels of a client organisations from executive to planners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the transport sector and in particular the planning cycles, working with consultants and infrastructure providers during the investment development phases.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with an ability to translate strategy into actionable insight in the public sector.
  • Good commercial acumen and understanding of commercial drivers.
  • Capability in Te ao Maori in line with Greater Wellington’s Maori Capability Framework.
