About us

The Wellington Tenths Trust (WTT) and the Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust (PNMRT) were established in 1977 to represent the beneficial owners of the Wellington land reserves, commonly known as the “Tenths.” These beneficial owners are the descendants of Te Ātiawa and other Taranaki iwi who were residing in the Wellington and Hutt Valley (Port Nicholson) area at the time of the disputed New Zealand Company land purchase in 1839.

WTT asserts mana whenua status and, together with PNMRT, was established to pursue claims before the Waitangi Tribunal, seeking compensation for losses arising from that purchase and subsequent events. In addition to this claims work, both Trusts continue to carry out their responsibilities to manage land, assets, and financial affairs on behalf of the beneficial owners.

Hīkoikoi Management Limited (HML) was established by WTT and PNMRT and continues to operate as a service entity, providing administrative and related support services to both Trusts in accordance with their contractual arrangements.

This is an exciting time to be joining Hikoikoi Management Limited and the associated Trusts. Their development pipeline is full, they have strong JV partners, and an expanding sphere of influence. However, there is the significant benefit of knowing that your contribution is also making a real difference to the well-being of the associated owners/whānau.
The role is based at the Executive Office, Hīkoikoi, Pito One, Wellington
