About the role
We seek an experienced and motivated Chief Executive, to lead Business Central, the key regional advocacy and support mechanism for thousands of businesses in the lower North Island and upper South Island. Amongst other things, the organisation plays a critical role connecting all manner of stakeholders, developing and driving advocacy. Given the economic and social challenges in the market, there has seldom been a more important time to have a highly visible, connected, collaborative and motivated leader, developing successful strategies in order to effect ongoing growth of this influential membership body, representing the interests of a diverse business community.
Business Central is also home to the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce and the CEO will lead both entities.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing strategic leadership to the organisation, setting the vision and long-term goals to drive member value and engagement
- Developing and overseeing the implementation of business plans, budgets and key initiatives to achieve organisational objectives
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government, industry bodies and members
- Advocating on behalf of members to influence policy decisions and champion the needs of the business community
- Leading, motivating and developing a high-performing team to deliver exceptional member services and support
- Identifying new business opportunities and revenue streams to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organisation
What we’re looking for
- Extensive experience in a senior leadership role, ideally within a membership-based, advocacy or not-for-profit organisation
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic plans to drive organisational growth and performance
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels
- Proven track record in leading, motivating and developing high-performing teams
- Strong commercial acumen and financial management skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively represent the organisation
- Passion for supporting and championing the interests of the business community
